Welcome to the YouTube (Fire) Podcast! For my podcast, I have chosen to discuss the online platform YouTube as my organization. YouTube is one of the largest video making services online. This service provides so many different options and can appeal to so many different audiences. Whether you are interested in gaming, music, or want something safe for your kids; YouTube has it all. The audience I would be creating my podcast for would be people around the ages of 16-24 as these ages are closer to mine and can relate to my experiences. The premise of my podcast would be to review the top trending videos on YouTube each week. While reviewing these parts, I would go over the details of the videos themselves, explore why they are on the top trending page and give my own opinions about the video I have chosen. These 3 parts would be one segment, as I would make each segment a different video that I am wanting to cover and/or found interesting. The promise of my podcast would be that I would review 3 videos per podcast. Each podcast would have the message of being creative and exploring new things on the YouTube application or website. I would want my podcast to open my audience up to new videos and ideas that they may have not previously watched or been interested in. The 4 pillars of my podcast would be informative, entertaining, funny, and educational. To create the script for this assignment, I first recorded my friend and I discussing the video and we were guided by a rough draft script that I made. Then, after I got enough content, I then went back and wrote it into a script.
YouTube (Fire): November 23- Segment 1
Brianna: Hello everyone! Welcome to the YouTube (Fire) Podcast where we bring you the top trending videos on YouTube each week. I am Brianna and with me today is the most music crazy person I’ve ever met; my friend, TJ. In honour of having someone so obsessed with music on my podcast this week, we will be talking about the top trending music videos of the week on YouTube.
Sound Effect 1-Confetti Pop
Segment 1.
Brianna: To begin our top trending music week, we couldn’t possibly start with anything but the iconic, Ariana Grande.
TJ: If you couldn’t guess just by the reference of her name, we are looking at Ariana Grande’s song, “Thank you, next”.
Brianna: Ariana first released this song on YouTube as a lyric video and just the audio itself. These videos were on the top trending page last week with over 35 million views each in just one week!
TJ: Crazy!
Brianna: This week however, she performed her song live on Ellen and it is now the third most trending video on YouTube. After only being online for 2 days, the video has over 5 million views. So before we dive into the video, lets listen to a little snippet of the song.
Music: First 20 seconds of Thank You, Next by Ariana Grande
TJ: Such a good song. I love the way she goes over almost every relationship she has had and gives a semi positive sentence about all of them. Those guys must have been relieved.
Brianna: Agreed. I’m not sure I could do the same with my own. Anyways, looking at this video itself, this is not the official music video for this song at all, but we’ll still go over all the details. After being introduced by Ellen, Ariana performs live and has two back up singers with her. Everything in this video is also pink, which I personally love.
TJ: For performing live, Ariana sounds exactly like the song itself. It’s crazy how amazing her voice is.
Brianna: Right? There is one slip-up into the second chorus though. After Ariana gets up onto one of the display chairs, she trips a bit and yells, “Oh my God” during her song.
TJ: Well can you blame her? I think I would too. I love how they all laugh during the song and after the song. It gives more of a realness to Ariana to watch her mess up.
Brianna: Showing that even Ariana Grande isn’t perfect. Agreed. Moving on, I’ve already touched on the popularity of this song and this is definitely why this video has shown up on the YouTube trending page. Not only is it a great song, but its also the famous Ariana Grande and everything she touches seems to turn to gold and of course, she’s also on Ellen. If you don’t love Ellen, you’re lying to yourself.
TJ: It’s very true; it seems like almost every single Ariana releases shows up on the trending page. It’s like everything she creates is already good before anyone hears it. Like, she could literally release a song about dying puppies and it would still be popular.
Brianna: Let’s not talk about dying puppies because I will seriously start crying. So overall, we’re not surprised at all that this video has shown up on the trending page since pretty well every video she releases does. Okay, onto our last point; what did you think of the video TJ?
TJ: I mean, I really liked it but I am certainly biased to the pink and Ariana herself. I do find it interesting that this video is trending because it isn’t a professionally made music video. I find the video itself to be a little boring and there isn’t much to look at besides the dancers and Ariana almost falling on her face. I wonder how many views she would have had she released this song as a music video? I think she certainly would have been the number 1 trending for sure.
Brianna: I completely agree. I was surprised to find this video on the trending page too since her lyric and audio videos had already been on the page just a week earlier. I do love Ellen and everything but I do think it’s a bit of a boring video for 4 minutes and 24 seconds. I guess in this case, if you’re Ariana Grande, you’re getting on the trending page no matter what. Alright, onto our next segment.
